Exploration
Theme 3
Our third theme is exploration. Within this theme participants are invited to discover the magic of adventure and challenge. Helping them to find out more about themselves and who they are.
“Children and young people have a thirst for adventure and challenge. This is evident from their earliest efforts to crawl and walk and can be seen throughout childhood.” (Tim Gill, 2010, p1)
Risk and exploration play an essential role in child development. Encountering certain types of risk helps children learn how to manage risks, builds resilience, self-reliance, confidence, independence, and creativity.
They are continuously being invited to explore the beautiful and precious natural world be it the changes in the season, weather, plants, or animals
Like all of our programmes of study the way in which we cover this theme will be different for every group of students. Their input, ideas, fascinations and interests will fuel the provision but a number of common threads will appear linked to ourselves, others and the environment.
